Topic and RE
Children’s History, Geography, Music, Art, Drama, PE and ICT lessons are taught through Topic lessons. These topics can either be half termly or termly, depending on their content. The Topics we cover throughout the are Dungeons and Dragons (a focus on Skipton and it’s history), North Pole, Wonderful Women and Marvellous Men and an African Adventure. We also have either a trip or a visitor into school every half term based around our topic work.
Religious Education is a big part of our learning at Saint Stephen’s and has an impact on everything we do – from our expectations of the children, the behaviour around school and of course our RE learning. We follow The Way, The Truth and The Life curriculum. In Year One we focus on the units of God’s Great Plan, Mary Mother of God, Families and Celebrations, Following Jesus, The Resurrection and Miracles. These units are used as a method to expand the children’s religious education and also their ability to recognise religious stories, recognise religious signs, symbols, words and phrases, recognise that people act in a certain way because of their religion, talk about their own feelings and experiences and also say what they wonder about.
