I am writing to update you at the end of another very long week in the world of education, the announcement that schools should welcome back YN/YR/Y1 and Y6 children by the Prime Minister last Sunday has created some wide ranging questions from school leaders, staff and parents alike.
Before I continue with that issue, I am delighted to announce that Miss Jessica Daly will be taking up Mrs Moon's teaching role with immediate effect, as Mrs Moon begins her maternity leave today. Miss Daly will be introducing herself to the children in St Patrick's class over the next couple of weeks so watch out for messages from her. We are delighted to welcome her to the family at St. Stephen's.
This week, I have attended multiple meetings with the Trust leaders and local school leaders in order to see how we can work together to plan to bring some more of the children back into school safely. The health, safety and well-being of the staff and children is paramount in these plans and every decision that schools usually make, and never more so than now.
Please be clear that if you are a key worker, your child/ren regardless of their year group can attend the Special Childcare and this will be the same expectation from 1st June. Please contact the school office if your work routines have changed and you need the provision.
With regard to how the school's timetables and routines will look from the 1st June, I am working on a rough draft with staff currently.
We have to ensure that hygiene routines/cleaning and social distancing practices are in place and that the children are placed in groups of no more than 15 with an adult. Considerations have to be made for outdoor play, lunches, equipment sharing, classroom spaces, etc . As you can see this is a very complicated process.
If your child is in a year group designated to return on 1st June, school will be contacting you next week to complete a survey online so that we can gauge your opinions about the situation and raise any questions that might help us with our planning. As preparation for other year groups coming back into school develops, we will contact those parents to complete a survey at that point.
If your child is in Y2,3,4,5 school staff will continue to provide online learning ideas and support from 1st June. We are awaiting further guidance with regard to this as teacher workload needs to be manageable with potentially children in and away from school .
I hope that you and your families continue to keep safe and well. If you have any queries or comments about any of the above please do use the contact sheet on the school website to raise them and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
